I Forgot My E-ZPass and Went through Toll

If you are from the United States’ Midwestern and Eastern areas, you probably have heard of the E-ZPass system.

Over thirty years ago, it was working on these zones, improving the traffic conditions, and enhancing the traveling experience for everyone.

Since you don’t have to stop at each toll booth to pay for the tolls, it can be very convenient; however, this can be a double-edged weapon and may end up giving you problems.

The system works great but gives problems now and then. Many people are not informed about how E-ZPass works and accidentally commit violations without noticing it.

Sometimes, people forget their E-ZPass. Whenever you drive through an E-ZPass toll without the transponder, you will face toll evasion charges that can cost you more than $100 plus the total cost of the toll. This is applicable even if you are an E-ZPass holder.

What can I do to avoid receiving a violation notice?

If you’ve noticed you don’t have your device, or if your device had been malfunctioning while you were on the road, you need to access the website as soon as possible so that you can pay for the unpaid tolls.

This process can be done within a few minutes, and the only thing you need to do is access the respective website, look for the option, submit the payment, and you’ll be all set!

Suppose you have noticed that you’ve been “evading” tolls accidentally but have already received the toll violation notice.

In that case, there is nothing you can do but file your claim within the first thirty days. Otherwise, you may end up paying a thousand dollars due to a small mistake.

Some of the most common toll violation problems occur due to issues related to transponders.

Sometimes, drivers are not aware their tags are inactive, malfunctioning, or not installed correctly.

However, many problems can be avoided by simply installing the transponder correctly and ensuring it works properly once in a while.

Other problems may be related to your windshield, but these are less common than those related to transponders.

You need to check them periodically, as they may start malfunctioning due to battery-related problems.

Also, every time you travel long distances, make sure your device is installed correctly and verify it is working correctly.

Otherwise, you will receive a toll violation notice, and therefore, you will pay an expensive fine.

There are some exceptions

Multiple violations related to E-ZPass exist. However, some of the most common ones are related to the situations mentioned previously. Still, there is some exception, such as a lost or stolen tag.

If you happen to face any of these problems, please contact your customer service center as soon as possible to deactivate your transponder and avoid more charges added to your account.

If you have any more doubts, you can contact them by attending the customer service personally, by calling or visiting the correct website.
